The 2005 NEPA-SCCA Banquet is fast approaching. The banquet date is set for January 14, 2006 at the Hilton in Scranton. For those of you who may wish to stay at the hotel on the night of the banquet, I would recommend reserving your rooms early. Due to other events happening in the city last year, the hotel was booked up by the night of the banquet.
We will be running the pinewood derby cars again, and are even talking about having a DJ this year for those of you who like to dance. The past few years that we have held the banquet at the Hilton in Scranton, the food and the service has been great.
More info to come over the next few weeks. -Chris Janusz(RE)

From the SCCA BoD and Staff
The devastation of Hurricane Katrina is incomprehensible for many of us, but very real for those in the Gulf Coast states. Our hearts and prayers go out to you in this trying time.
We often say that SCCA is a family, not just a club of “members.” When tragedy strikes, we feel the pain and suffering with our SCCA family members. We are often at our best during these tragic events, and news of support by SCCA members in the affected areas only serves to enforce our family ties.
The Sports Car Club of America National Office has received numerous offers of support from Regions and individual members for direct contributions to those SCCA members impacted by this disaster. We are currently compiling all ideas and options to determine the most effective effort from the National office, including, but not limited to, direct support by listing those efforts already established by SCCA Regions and members. We will be posting a list of these efforts on scca.com and will provide links when available. Please monitor the Web site for continual updates. In the meantime, SCCA members are encouraged to support the overall relief efforts reported in the national media.
Again, our hearts and prayers go out to you.

The SCCA Double National was held on August 6th and 7th. Congratulations to NEPA driver John Costello for taking first place in SSC during the Saturday race. John was driving a Joel Lipperini prepared Honda Civic Si (which is the sister car to Joel's two time National winning car). John also had the fastest lap time of the weekend for SSC during the Sunday event. John, and a number of other NEPA drivers (including local favorites Joel Lipperini, Sam Ryan, Marc Cefalo, and Mike Cefalo), will be heading out to the Run-Offs later this season to represent our region. Good luck to all competitors!

On Saturday, July 2, at 8:00 A.M., we will be setting up for the running of the Giant's Despair Hillclimb which will be held on July 9 & 10. Any help would be appreciated. To get to the Giant, follow Northampton Street in Wilkes-Barre south to the start line.

On August 5th through the 7th, Tri-Region will be conducting a Double National at Pocono Raceway. A lot of workers are needed to run an event of this magnitude. Wherever your interests may lie, you will find something that will help in the running of this event. If you are interested in working or have questions, call Joe Wilkie at 570-823-3020. -Tom Knorr

Our first winter event went off without a hitch! For Frackville, it was a warm winter day. We had 22 entrants, with each getting 8 runs, and we were still packed up and on the highway by 3:30pm. Eric Simmons came up from the Philly region to try our slush and ice and took FTD with Adam Koback coming in behind him by .162. It was very exciting to watch these two fight it out all day. We hope everyone had a good time and look forward to seeing everyone at the April 3rd winter event. Thank you to everyone who came out and especially to those who assisted with the setup and clean up of the course. See you soon! -Chris Janusz (RE)

HI Everyone,
My name is Tim Royer, your new Time Trials Chairman. I just wanted to introduce myself and share with you some announcements that you may be interested in. I recently moved into NEPA region from the Blue Mountain Region where I was an active member and on the board. I'm also the event organizer for the Spring Jefferson "Time Trials." For those of you who have not heard, the SCCA is no longer using the name "Solo1." Yeah, they went and changed the name on us. "Solo1" is now "Time Trials." There are more changes for 2005 to the ex-Solo1 program besides simply the name change. Watch this spot for more information.

The first meeting of the Giants Despair Hill Climb Association is on March 5th at the Laurel Run Fire Company in the Council meeting room at 2pm. This is for anyone wishing to help in setting up and running the event. Members, we need you!

This year, the NEPA region is looking into having a "Workers Series" for NEPA hosted Time Trials (there are now 5). Besides the possibility of cash, prizes, or both to be handed out to workers for each event, each worker will also acquire points for working. Then, at the end of the year, we are looking into a "Worker Series Banquet." Details and guidelines still need to be worked out so stay tuned! To start things off, I'll even give everyone who shows up to the Giants Association meeting 1 point! And if you bring another person along with you, I'll give you 2 points toward year end award! If you have never worked at a corner station in a race (that's how I got my start), you don't know what you're missing. Any questions, feel free to email me.-Tim Royer (Time Trials)

I would like to thank everyone who came to the 2004 NEPASCCA banquet. The weather could have been better, but we still managed to have a nice turnout.
I would also like the thank everyone who pitched in to make the banquet a success. There is a lot of work that goes into putting on an event like this and it's so much easer when everyone helps out. Special thanks to Sara Malone, Huge Malone, Chris Haydu, Jeremy Sereyka, Dan Lipperini. And thanks once again to the Boy Scouts for use of the Pine Wood Derby track. Thanks! -Chris Janusz (RE)

The NEPA region mourns the loss of one of its long standing board members, Chet Dombrowski. He was a great asset to the club and would always help out where needed. I didn't really know him outside of the club, but when we did talk, he was easy going and quick with a joke. He will be greatly missed. On behalf of the NEPA board and its members, I would like to extend our deepest sympathies. -Chris Janusz (RE)
