On behalf of the NEPA board, I would like to wish everyone a Merry
Christmas and a Happy New Year. I hope everyone makes the most of your
time spent with family and friends. I would also like to send out a
special thanks to all of our family and friends currently serving their country and can
not be home during this Holiday season. Be safe, and we wish you the best. -Chris Janusz (RE)

meeting schedule page. One of the meeting locations have been changed and some meetings have been canceled for
Winter Break. Thanks -Webmaster
First thing I would like to congratulate Joel Lipperini for taking first at
the runoffs and Chris Shenefield for placing 3rd at solo nationals. Great
With the race season basically over, I would like to thank everyone that
helped put the events on this year and the drivers for making them a
success. It's a lot of hard work and it couldn't happen without you.
The 11/3/04 General Membership Meeting will be held at Firestone (in the
parking lot of the Wyoming Valley Mall) in Wilkes-Barre Twp. We would
like to get the club truck cleaned out and ready for next year. The club
will provide the pizza and soda if you could provide us with an extra hand.
With a few of us working on the truck, it shouldn't take long at all. That leaves the rest of the night
for bench racing. Check the meeting section of our web page for further info.
Thanks -Chris Janusz (RE)

There is something for everyone this weekend. Have a great time and be safe! -Chris Janusz (RE)
The NEPA Region, and especially the Solo2 community, suffered a terrible loss over the weekend.
Hans Nothen passed away late Friday night July 30th at the age of 26 years old. Hans had just become an
SCCA member this year and besides leading his SM2 class in Solo2, had aspirations of Road Racing
next season while driving an army green colored CRX "The General" (as he called it).
I only knew Hans for a year but you only needed to spend five minutes with him to realize that he
was one of the nicest people you'll ever meet. He will be greatly missed by everyone. Our deepest sympathies go out to
his close friends and family.
The Tuesday August 3rd General/Member Meeting will be canceled. The Times Leader
newspaper has posted the following information for those wishing to pay their respects:
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday 8/4 from McLaughlin Family Funeral Service,
142 S. Washington St., Wilkes-Barre. Friends may call Tuesday 8/3 from 2 to
4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday 8/4 from 9 to 10 a.m. Memorial contributions
may be made to the Hans W. Nothen Memorial Fund in care of Citizens Bank,
Wilkes-Barre. Memories may be sent to email@example.com. (Published
in the TimesLeader on 8/2/2004) . -Chris Janusz (RE)

the next few weeks.

Instructors need for Pocono driving school!

May 22 & 23 at Nazareth Speedway, Philadelphia Region will be doing the
infield security for the NASCAR Busch Series Goulds Pump 200. We need
at least 60 people per day to make the event run smoothly and to this
date we only have 22 signed up for both days.( just 3 weeks before the
names have to be turned in to the track )
It seems to me that one of the
problems that I am having is most people don't like NASCAR so let me plead
my case. I have been doing these races since 2001. The biggest reason
that I do is that the people that I meet at the track are fantastic, fun
and the friendliest in the world!! Ok maybe it's the cars and the racing.
Anyway. When it all comes down to it the drivers and the crew members
mostly do it for the same reason that we all do. The love of speed and
compitition. You cannot come any closer to being at the races than we
will be. We are in the pits during Saturday practice and qualifiying and
all day race day. We are on pit road during the fury of it all both days.
We are in victory circle when the trophy is presented. We are everywhere!!
We provide food and beverages and will explain to you what is needed for
you to do.
When it all comes down to it your job is pretty darn easy and
the perks are sweet. So if you love motorsports please email me what days
you would like to volunteer. I have to have names addresses and phone
numbers soon. The Speedway wants me to present them before May 10th so
that credentials can be ready for the race weekend. The solo dates that
we run at the track are given to us by Nazareth in exchange for the volunteer
work that we do for there pro events.
So if you compete at Nazareth please
give us a hand!! If you don't run solo at Nazareth, please give us a hand!!

email me or walk up to me at a solo event my deadline is getting near.- Patrick Weaver (SCCA)

Tri-state Rally Championship and Rally in the Dark:

The NEPA banquet on January 24th was held in the new Hilton in Scranton.
They have a beautiful complex, and we all owe a big thanks to Bob &
Michelle Keating for making the arrangements, center pieces, invitations and
other tasks too numerous to mention. The food was excellent and the
service could not have been any better. From all the positive
feedback we received at the banquet, we will be looking into holding it
there again next year.
The Pinewood derby went well with about 24 entrants. We ran elimination
brackets this year, every car hade a minimum of 2 runs. But in the end, it
came down to Joel Lipperini and Forrest Graeff, with Joel taking the win
in the stock class. The modified class hade 3 entrants, with Joel taking
the win there also.
Congratulations to all the 2003 trophy winners and good luck to everyone
in the 2004 race season. -Chris Janusz (RE)

Season progresses. Thank you for being patient and we hope that you enjoy
our new webpage. -Webmaster
